What do you think of this story?
I enjoyed writing it, and I enjoy reading it out loud. That's how I judge my own things. By how they sound when I read them out loud to myself. If it's pleasing to my ear, and flows well enough, then I'm satisfied that I have a story that others might find entertaining. I love writing stories that allow me to play with words.

What prompted you to write this particular story?
What prompted the story was my own inner turmoil, that and I love vampires and things in general "that go bump in the night." I was in a very dark place when I began this last year. I even considered using another pseudonym. I still may in the future for other things. I guess I've returned to that dark place.

In your opinion, what worked about the story?
A vampire lost in her own confusion about her purpose, her place in life. I thought it interesting to write it from the point of view; that in the end there is no moral to the story, and the only lesson learned is being true to one's nature.

What didn't work?
I had initially tried to make one character innocent and untouched by her vampirism and it didn't work.

What makes this story stand out for you?
Arrabon. I'd like to know an Arrabon wouldn't you? I bet she'd have a wicked sense of humor.

What were the technical difficulties in pulling it off?
Are you aware of how many different vampire legends there are out there?! The God and Goddess know there are tons of them. And using just the right blend of legend and my own imagination is tricky business.

Where did you get the inspiration from - your own life, or from your own imagination?

Pain has been a constant friend and companion as of late. - Some days with me more strongly than others but with me just the same. I'm learning I can withstand a lot. Physical pain does curious things to the mind, changes the perception of everything. There's a beauty to it - a poetry that can't quite be captured by music or an artist's paints or even the bold words written on page. It blankets, cocoons, and instills one with solemn wisdoms. It can make one's writings quite dark.

What do you think would make people read this story?
The title is catchy. LOL

Any anecdotes associated with its creation?
Well, I could share something, but then I'd have to bite you.

This Thing Between Us

Diana inspired this, and a special Christmas gift she knows I'm working on for her. I began it at 8:27 PM on Sunday, Dec 08, 2002 and had finished it 1:58 AM Wednesday December 11, 2002. I was wondering as I sat here thinking about her and the fact that the 11th would be her birthday, if she had been younger and we had met in school what that might have been like. And if we might have connected then and again in the future. I was pretty much picked on or ignored in school. Diana was sort of an outcast, herself, so I took it upon myself to sprinkle some fairy dust and work some magic with our connection. Change the ages, blur the lines between her and myself, and Tuhdah you have this twisted tale, a piece of fiction aptly titled … This Thing Between Us.

I try to cling to the idea that eventually; we all will evolve into beings for which love can overcome all obstacles, with a willingness to change and a willingness to not just forgive but to let go. Perhaps I do live in a dream world … but I rather like it there.
